
Life After a Heart Attack
Having heart disease is in no way a death sentence. There have been plenty of people that have come back from a heart attack to live completely normal and full lives. But that does not mean that they can do the same things as everyone else or what they themselves had done in the past. Somebody with heart disease has to follow certain rules and guidelines so that the same thing does not happen to them again. Many lifestyle changes will need to be made, but it is nothing to be upset over. The most important thing is surviving a heart attack. Heart disease and being able to spend time with your family and your loved ones. can be difficult to deal with for everybody affected, including families, but it is possible to get through it as long as you have people by your side. Here are some of the tips that somebody that has had a heart attack or is suffering from heart disease should abide by.
1. Smoking – By no means should you ever pick up a cigarette again in your life if you have heart disease. Not to say that one cigarette is going to cause a heart attack, but cigarettes are very addictive. One cigarette will turn into two, two will turn into ten, and then next thing you know you will be back to your pack a day habit. The best choice is to just stay away.
2. Diet – Many hospitals will provide a diet for somebody that has suffered from a heart attack. Many hospitals use the diet that has been compiled by the American Heart Association, but a few also have their own that they like to use for their heart disease patients.
3. Exercise – A plan for daily activity will be provided for the first four to six weeks after suffering from a heart attack, but after that it is up to the patient to keep exercising. Exercising regularly is good for any heart disease, and healthy for the heart, lungs, and your entire body in general. If necessary, patients could speak with a highly qualified personal trainer to help them with their exercise plan.
4. Cholesterol – Testing for cholesterol levels should be done regularly. Cholesterol is a major factor in heart disease, and if it builds up in an artery, blood flow to the heart can decrease causing a heart attack. Keeping a healthy diet should coincide with your cholesterol level being lowered.
5. Hypertension – Along with cholesterol, blood pressure is another cause of heart disease. Getting your blood pressure checked regularly can help to find a problem, and will hopefully allow intervention before another heart attack occurs.
These are some of the rules that need to be followed to prevent another heart attack, but a full checklist should be provided by the hospital for any heart disease. Make sure to speak with a doctor if you have any worries.
