Snacks

So you have begun to exercise regularly, you have replaced meat with fish and beans several meals a week, and you are consuming whole grain foods all in an effort to decrease the chances that you will have a heart attack or heart disease. Now the problem is what snacks you can eat between these meals that will also help in the fight against heart disease or a heart attack. The good news is that there are many healthy snacks available for fending off heart disease that are delicious as well. Some are simple, some take a few minutes of preparation work, but none of these snacks are difficult to make. Best of all, these delicious snacks are battling against heart disease with every last tasty bite. Here are a few of those snacks that are going to serve as a figurative shield against a nasty heart attack.

1. Peanuts – Very simple, but still effective when it comes to helping against a heart attack or heart disease. Peanuts are high in protein while being relatively low in fat compared to meat. A nice handful of peanuts can curb your hunger until that next meal, and will provide you with health benefits in the process. When referring to peanuts, we aren’t talking peanuts covered in chocolate, peanuts in ice cream, or any other similar variant. If you consume them in this way, there will be no heart attack or heart disease benefits, in fact you would be better off not including peanuts in a tub of ice cream at all.

2. Dark chocolate – This is for those of you with a sweet tooth. Dark chocolate has several health benefits. It does not contain as much sugar as milk chocolate, and it has antioxidants, which is known to have positive results in heart disease prevention. It is important that you do not eat dark chocolate in excess, just like any other food. Shoving large amounts of dark chocolate into your mouth will not reduce the chances of a heart attack.

3. Fruits and Vegetables – Both of these have high levels of antioxidants and fiber. Antioxidants are well known to help fight against heart disease, and fiber will help to reduce stress on your digestive system. Decreasing any types of stress can reduce blood pressure, effectively reducing risks of a heart attack. Not to mention, fruits and vegetables also have low fat contents. Adding some hummus, which is made from chick peas, to your vegetables can also increase your protein intake as well.

The number of other snacks out there for heart disease or heart attack prevention is impressive. There are some interesting choices out there too, such as melon and cottage cheese, and even combinations such as fruit and dark chocolate. With scrumptious choices like these, that dirty, rotten heart attack isn’t going to have a chance. Check the Internet for some more great snack ideas.
